Assistant Technical/Creative Apparel Designer

Location: Madison, Wisconsin.  DSG Outerwear Headquarters

Employment Type: Full-time | On-site

Do you have an eye for style and a mind for detail? DSG Outerwear is looking for an Assistant Technical/Creative Apparel Designer to join our growing design team and help bring innovative women’s outdoor apparel and accessories to life.

At the heart of our brand is a belief in Fit, Fashion, and Function—creating gear that empowers women to move confidently in the outdoors. This role requires a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise to turn design vision into high-quality, performance-driven products that meet our brand standards for consistency, comfort, and durability.

You’ll collaborate closely with our Production Manager and Technical Designer to support the full product lifecycle—from concept through production—ensuring accuracy, innovation, and excellence every step of the way.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support the design and development of women’s apparel and accessories, ensuring alignment with brand standards and seasonal direction.
  • Create detailed technical flat sketches, tech packs, and artwork for complex styles.
  • Assist in fit sessions, capturing detailed notes and providing feedback for factory corrections.
  • Manage and update Illustrator line plans and Excel tech packs to maintain accuracy.
  • Review samples to ensure all elements meet quality, fit, and brand consistency across categories.
  • Participate in market and trend research, providing insights that drive innovative design and competitive positioning.
  • Support approvals for lab dips, strike-offs, trims, packaging, and labeling.
  • Conduct occasional in-house product testing to validate performance and fit.
  • Assist in showroom organization, sample tracking, and sales presentation preparation.
  • Maintain adherence to product development calendars.
  • Occasional travel as needed.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design, Technical Design, Textiles, or a related field required.
  • 1+ years of experience in technical design or a similar apparel development role preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fabrics, garment construction, and patterning; familiarity with women’s plus sizes is a bonus.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of packaging and label design is a plus.
