Early Childhood Intern

Eligibility Notes

This position is only open to UW-Madison, School of Human Ecology (SoHE) students who are enrolled in the HDFS major and who have not completed their internship requirement yet. Requirements also include completing Inter-He 202 first and having at least 54 credits completed.

General Position Description

The Playing Field childcare center is a non-profit organization with a mission to break barriers faced by low-income families in accessing high quality care and education. We intentionally address the barriers of cost, transportation, and high rates of preschool expulsion. Our unique models for enrollment, funding and staff development assure that children are not denied access to quality early childhood education services. As an Early Childhood Student Intern at The Playing Field, you will have many opportunities to foster supportive relationships with children, families and co teaching teams in trauma informed practices. Student Interns will also be assisting transportation for our most vulnerable population while riding our morning and afternoon bus to help ensure safety to and from our center.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
• Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions.
• Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
• Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
• Follow all center policies and state regulations.
• Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children while going to and from school.
• Lead children in activities while on the bus such as songs, finger games, stories, etc. as learning experiences.
• Maintains good communication with classroom staff regarding the children and families on their route.
• Ability to lift children.

Employment Type

Student Intern is a part-time, temporary position. A paid Student Intern position is an hourly position.

Locations

The Playing Field is hiring for both of their locations. The West side location is 3910 Mineral Point Rd. The East side location is 2253 Independence Ln.
