Development and Engagement Intern

Development & Engagement- Winter/Spring 2026 Internship
 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County (BBBS) is seeking a part-time Development & Engagement Intern for the Spring 2026 semester. Interns will commit to 15–20 hours per week. The work schedule and location are flexible, though some responsibilities will require regular hours at the BBBS office (2059 Atwood Avenue #2, Madison, WI 53704).

We build positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people, helping them achieve higher aspirations, greater confidence, and educational success.
 

Job Description
This internship provides a hands-on, well-rounded experience across multiple nonprofit development and community engagement areas. The intern will support initiatives to strengthen connections with alumni, volunteers, and community partners, promote the organization’s brand, and contribute to the planning and execution of events. This role offers exposure to various functions, including research, outreach, marketing, communications, and project management.


Key Responsibilities
Interns will perform functions including (but not limited to):
● Alumni & Community Engagement: Support outreach to past program participants, volunteers, and donors; research and organize historical materials, including photos and digital files; help maintain and update records; assist with storytelling efforts to highlight alumni.
● Brand & Marketing Support: Help represent the organization at events, on social media, and in communications; contribute to marketing materials and campaigns.
● Event Support: Assist with planning, logistics, and execution of events; support volunteer coordination and day-of-event operations.
● General Administrative & Project Support: Contribute to organizational projects, research, data management, and other development-related tasks as needed, including maintaining and updating records in Salesforce, the organization’s donor and volunteer database.
 

Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing one of the 7 majors in the School of Human Ecology
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Interest in nonprofit work, development, marketing, and event planning
  • Professional and enthusiastic approach to representing the organization
     

Learning Outcomes:
● Gain experience in alumni engagement, donor relations, and volunteer outreach
● Develop skills in event planning, marketing, and brand representation
● Strengthen project management, communication, and problem-solving abilities
● Build a broad understanding of nonprofit development and operations
