Interior Design Assistant
Interior Design Assistant- Los Angeles, CA
Sarah Barnard Design is a boutique interior design studio specializing in creating high-end, wellness-focused, deeply meaningful spaces. We pride ourselves on delivering an unparalleled, bespoke experience to our discerning clientele. As a close-knit, small studio environment, we work collaboratively, and every team member plays a vital role in our daily operations.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized, articulate, and proactive Interior Design Assistant to join our team. In our small studio, this role wears many hats, seamlessly balancing creative support, office administration, and client-facing responsibilities.
The ideal candidate is a self-directed professional who possesses a unique blend of creative foundation, exceptional tech literacy, and strong communication skills. We are fully prepared to train the right person on our specific studio workflows, provided you bring the foundational computer skills, design coursework, and customer-facing experience.
Work Location & Travel (Hybrid): This is a hybrid position requiring a mix of remote work and scheduled days in studio. Because this role requires regular local travel for job site visits, sourcing, and coordination, candidates must be local to Los Angeles and possess reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license.
Key Responsibilities
Project Administration: Track material orders, coordinate and schedule deliveries, and maintain highly detailed project files.
Field Support: Accompany the Principal on job-site visits, take measurements, and document progress.
Documentation: Attend client and vendor meetings and produce precise, professional meeting summaries and action-item lists.
Design & Presentation Support: Assist with preparing client presentations, organizing digital assets, and updating project spreadsheets.
Studio Operations: Manage day-to-day office tasks to keep the studio running smoothly and efficiently.
Position Requirements
Education: Completion of interior design coursework or a degree in a related field.
Customer Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a fast-paced, client-facing environment. We welcome transferable skills from fields such as high-end retail, art galleries, antique dealers, previous design office assistant roles, or premium hospitality and restaurant environments. You should understand how to communicate comfortably and professionally with a sophisticated clientele.
Technical Proficiency: Strong literacy in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and Google Workspace / Microsoft Office (with a strong comfort level using Sheets or Excel for tracking).
Communication & Discretion: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Absolute discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality are mandatory when interacting with clients and representing the studio.
Execution & Detail-Orientation: An innate, rigorous attention to detail. We are looking for an individual who takes immense pride in the accuracy of their work, possesses excellent self-editing skills, and thoroughly checks their own tasks for accuracy.
