Book Designer — Adobe InDesign (Temporary)

My Stories Matter is seeking a designer with strong Adobe InDesign skills to create printed memoirs and family history books. This is a temporary position with potential for growth.

Responsibilities

• Design and lay out book interiors with text, photos, and captions.
• Follow supplied book specifications and design guidelines.
• Apply thoughtful typography and consistent formatting.
• Prepare print-ready PDFs and make revisions based on feedback.
• Bring creative ideas to projects where a more personalized design is appropriate.

Required skills

• Extensive familiarity with Adobe InDesign, particularly for multi-page documents.
• Strong knowledge of typography, spacing, readability, and page composition.
• Confidence using paragraph and character styles, parent pages, text flow, and linked images.
• Familiarity with preflight checks and PDF export for print.
• Careful attention to detail, organization, and reliable communication.

Preferred skills

• Experience designing books or other long publications.
• Familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, and the broader Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
• Some understanding of InDesign scripts and how they can streamline repetitive tasks.
